About The Intimidator SS
A year after NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt died in a last-lap crash at the 2001 Daytona 500, Chevrolet immortalized him by building a Monte Carlo in his honor. The SS Intimidator edition was a limited-run car that promised to catch your eye with its looks and deliver with its performance. Chevy dubbed the car "The Intimidator" in honor of Earnhardt's nickname, earned through his aggressive driving style .
Engine
The Intimidator ran on General Motors' 3800 V-6 supercharged engine, capable of producing 240 horsepower and 280 foot-lbs. of torque.
Exterior
The exterior of the Intimidator Monte Carlo came in just one color: black. Earnhardt, known for driving a black Monte Carlo, became known as NASCAR's "Man in Black." Like Earnhardt's stock car, the Intimidator edition featured a metallic silver stripe and thin red border along the bottom panels. The car also included the Intimidator graphic on the hood, a logo featuring the number three (in honor of Earnhardt's longtime use of the number in NASCAR) and Earnhardt's signature on the rear quarter panels, "Intimidator" lettering along the sides and below the trunk and a Richard Childress Racing logo to the rear of each front wheel. Earnhardt spent the majority of his career driving for the Richard Childress Racing team.
Interior
The interior of the vehicle incorporated ebony and pewter with red accents. The floor mats had the number three and the Intimidator lettering embroidered on them. The leather head rests featured red Chevrolet bow-tie emblems, and the instrument panel included Earnhardt's signature and number three graphic. Kick plates on the interiors of each door featured Richard Childress Racing emblems.
Other Models
Chevrolet re-released the Intimidator edition Monte Carlo SS in 2004 to coincide with the release of the Dale Earnhardt Jr. Signature Series SS honoring Earnhardt's son. The carmaker released 4,000 units of the second-generation Intimidator edition in 2004, along with 2,883 units of the Earnhardt Jr. edition.
